October - LG AI Tech CONNECT (NEW YORK) & More!

On a sunny autumn day with a clear sky in October, LG AI Tech CONNECT was held in New York, the first event by LG AI Research in North America! ()
LG AI Tech CONNECT was planned to give time for not only tech seminars for LG AI researchers and guests, but also for them to CONNECT by networking! As it was our first event in New York, the Talent Relations Team prepared full of nerves and excitement. Shall we take a look at the scene in New York together?
(Marriott Marquis New York located at the center of Times Square)
LG AI Tech CONNECT was held in Marriott Marquis New York, located at the center of Times Square! We could fully indulge in the New York vibe as the venue was easily found in the heart of New York
We helped with check-in as participants arrived for the event in the afternoon and we presented small gifts to express our gratitude for them taking time to visit in their busy schedule.
Those who came in early introduced and greeted each other and we were surprised to find many of them already knew each other! Some people already personally knew each other, but we were happy to see those meeting for the first time and engaging in conversation about each other’s research that they had read about before
(Checking in)
(Giving gifts to guests!)
As the event officially kicked off, Honglak Lee, Chief Scientist AI of LG AI Research, led the opening of the event as well as the first Tech Session. After the overall introduction of LG AI Research, he presented the research being carried out at the Global AI Center located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. LG AI Research is actively conducting AI research not only in Korea but also in Michigan, and those learning about this for the first time showed great interest and were deeply engaged with the seminar
Tech Session #1 - Honglak Lee, CSAI ‘Towards Building Intelligent Agents by Bridging Compositionality, Language, and Multimodality’
(Opening speech by CSAI Honglak Lee)
(Introduction to research at Ann Arbor and EXAONE)
(Everyone listening attentively!)
In addition to Honglak, we were joined by Jungkyu Choi, the Head of Multimodal AI Research Group from Korea to meet outstanding talented individuals overseas.
Group Leader Jungkyu Choi gave a more detailed presentation on EXAONE 2.0, revealed in July of this year. He discussed the importance of accuracy in LLM research in the industry to experts by mentioning the hallucination issue in generative AI technology, and how the three platforms, EXAONE Universe, Discovery, and Atelier, implement EXAONE 2.0 along with a demo video. (If you haven’t heard about EXAONE 2.0 yet, check out the LG AI Talk Concert Click!)
Tech Session #2 - Jungkyu Choi, Head of Multimodal AI Research Group ‘Introduction to EXAONE 2.0 – Multimodal Language & Vision Research’
(Passionate presentation by Group Leader Jungkyu Choi)
(EXAONE 2.0 for expert AI is truly astonishing!)
(The Q&A session continued even after the presentation!)
(Guests conversed even during breaks)
The important part of LG AI Tech CONNECT was not only the company introduction but also the Spotlight Session carried out by all guests!
During the Spotlight Session, each speaker briefly explained their ongoing research. Although their presentations were brief, it was a meaningful time to learn about their research, the challenges they faced, and how they overcame them. Guests were able to actively converse during the networking session as they learned about their research thanks to the Spotlight Session
(Presenting during the Spotlight Session!)
(Despite being a brief session,)
(Everyone prepared diligently for the event)
(It was a fun time as the presentations showed individual personalities!)
After all presentation sessions ended, we had the long-awaited Dinner & Networking Session!
When it comes to New York, you can’t forget about the delicious food! Guests filled their stomachs with the neatly arranged hotel buffet and freely enjoyed networking with wine and desserts. There was a discussion group formed around CSAI Honglak Lee and Group Leader Jungkyu Choi, and a heated debate among guests conducting similar research!
The Talent Relations Team also spoke with each guest and many of them mentioned that it was a unique and impressive event where they had the opportunity to present their research and network with others instead of just being a typical corporate introduction (kudos to the hardworking Talent Relations Team! ).
(A lively conversation between CSAI Honglak Lee and guests)
LG AI Tech CONNECT aimed to bring together overseas talent in highly-related research fields for active exchange and it was a rewarding time as guests were very satisfied with the event
The Talent Relations Team will work even harder to ensure that next year’s event is also a fun and meaningful time! Please look forward to our event next year!
(Thank you to everyone who attended LG AI Tech CONNECT!)

CAREER DAY 2023

But wouldn’t it be a shame to return to Korea like this? The Talent Relations Team went to a new city to meet with more talent after the successful end of LG AI Tech CONNECT in New York!
We hosted Career Day at the University of Michigan, Carnegie Mellon University, and Georgia Tech to introduce LG AI Research to students and provide consultations
(We prepared snacks and coffee for an energy boost)
(Students especially enjoyed the Korean snack, Oranda!)
The Global AI Center, Ann Arbor of LG AI Research is located close to the University of Michigan (CSAI Honglak Lee is also a professor at the University of Michigan! ). So, when we organized Career Day at the University of Michigan, researchers from the Global AI Center came out to support us!
They provided details of what research is actively conducted at the Global AI center through a presentation and shared news that research results were accepted through a paper at the Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing (EMNLP) conference

TOD-Flow: Modeling the Structure of Task-Oriented Dialogues.
A Picture is worth a Thousand Words: Language Models Plan from Pixels.
(Opening of Career Day)
(We also gave an introduction of LG AI Research)
(Focused promotion time for the Global AI Center!)
(We had a virtual Q&A session with Global AI Center researchers at Georgia Tech)
This was a meaningful time for students since senior researchers introduced their research and shared who they want to collaborate with After introducing the center, the Talent Relations Team held one-on-one consultations about the recruitment process and internships and held more detailed conversations. In particular, they provided detailed guidance on the 2024 summer internship, in which there was a lot of interest!

OFFICE DAY 2023

At the University of Michigan, we also organized Office Day along with Career Day, where the Global AI Center invites students involved in industry-academia projects with LG AI Research!
The Global AI Center was introduced again at the Office Day. CSAI Honglak Lee explained once more that the direction LG AI Research aims for was another opportunity to motivate students involved in industry-academia projects.
Following an introduction of LG AI Research, many students also presented their industry-academia research projects. As their projects varied, some students were meeting each other for the first time, but everyone was enthusiastic and asked about each other’s project without any awkwardness. Global AI Center researchers also showed great interest and actively asked questions
(Students presenting on their industry-academia projects!)
(They took turns in giving their presentations)
(Heated conversations even during breaks!)
(They also took time to casually network during lunch )
As the Global AI Center reached its second year since its establishment, we organized an event to gather students working on industry-academia projects for the first time. We look forward to having more regular gatherings to share research outcomes
(Group photo with students at Office Day!)
We are always grateful to our researchers in Ann Arbor who worked diligently to meet with outstanding talent even with their busy research schedules! The Talent Relations Team will also continue to strive to bring great people to the Global AI Center
